
A driver was hospitalized with burns after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole and caught fire in Redmond, Washington, Friday afternoon.
The crash happened in the 11600 block of Willows Road Northeast, according to Redmond police.
Police said the vehicle was traveling north when it left the roadway, traveled down a trail and struck a utility pole.
The vehicle then became engulfed in flames.
The driver suffered burns in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The collision also damaged the utility pole and left power lines hanging over the roadway, creating an additional hazard for drivers and emergency crews.
Willows Road Northeast was closed in both directions between the 10800 block and Northeast 116th Street while authorities responded to the scene.
Police urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews dealt with the damaged utility infrastructure.
Despite the damage to the utility pole, there were no reported power outages in the area at the time of the incident.
Emergency crews and police remained at the scene as authorities worked to secure the roadway and address the hazards caused by the crash.
The circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway have not been fully established.
