A fire burning near Elimbah, Queensland, has disrupted traffic on the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane, with heavy smoke reducing visibility for motorists as more than 10 Rural Fire Service crews work to contain the blaze.
The fire was reported near the Bruce Highway between exits 152 and 157, where crews initially found trees and vegetation burning close to the major road.
Firefighters first arrived at about 4:15 p.m. and estimated the blaze was roughly 150 to 200 metres from the highway. The fire later moved closer to the roadway, prompting growing concerns over visibility for southbound drivers.
Queensland Fire Department crews continued arriving at the scene as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Police were also at the location assisting with traffic management as smoke affected conditions along the highway.
The cause of the fire had not been confirmed in the latest reports.
